Reboot Culture

Kolkata is known across the world as the “Cultural Capital of India”. The Indian Renaissance began in Bengal, in the back alleys of Kolkata. Our city has long been known for its literary, artistic and revolutionary heritage. Generations of intellectual debate and artistic freedom have shaped the modern Bengali and their idea of the world.

But that idea is being broken down systematically. Our dance form Gauriya Nritra - Dying. The masterfull strokes of our patuas in Kalighat while crafting Pattachitra’s - Vanishing. The walls of old Bengali bungalows that stand testament to years of awakening and revolution - Crumbling. All the while our voices are caged and shackled.

The steady decline in the collective celebration of debates, literature and arts is leading to the soul of Kolkata being lost in a past it yearns for. It is time we revive our culture, unshackle our collective voice and root our movement back to where it all began, the streets of Kolkata.
