Reboot Electricity

Reboot Electricity

"Electricity Bill constitutes a significant amount of one’s household budget. Two operators, privatisation of electricity in Kolkata and the second highest power tariff in India with Rs. 8 per unit has only made it more problematic for a middle class family to afford electricity in Kolkata. The monopolistic control of the CESC in Kolkata allows them to extort any price that suits them, while the citizens are left with no alternative and no say on the matter. It is incumbent on the administration to protect its citizens from such market monopoly and provide 24x7 Affordable Power for All, but we have heard nothing from them yet. Why? What is the nexus between them?

Industrial electricity tariff is no less a pain in West Bengal. Investors have been raising their concerns on several occasions over the 30 per cent gap between the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd and other suppliers like Damodar Valley Corporation, a central utility, for the rate they charge for power in the industrial towns of Bengal.

Has your monthly budget also crashed due to high rates of electricity? Have you also been considering moving to another metro due to the increasing cost of living ? How can we Reboot Power in Kolkata ?
